I did not enjoy the Seafood boil and I think it’s because you put more patoes; it’ll much better if you can remove the patatoes and add onion instead

We had a lovely experience at John Dory’s. The service was really excellent. We were served complimentary appetisers and dessert shots. There is a good variety of meals on the menu with options for everyone. My children were very pleased with their food as well as the play area. The sushi was delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive making for an all round wonderful experience. Thank you.

Think you can’t make sushi? Think again. Thanks to John Dory Hemingway’s brilliant sushi “masterclass”, my friends and I learned at least the basics on Monday night. We ate our fill, as well, between loads of laughs and sparkling wine. To be truthful, we weren’t let loose with sharp knives, which was just as well for all concerned. What we had instead was a honey of a sushi masterchef to teach and entertain us. Well, okay, his name is actually Hunny and it suits him down to the ground. Not only does Hunny have jaw-droppingly mad skills with a knife, he’s also patient, warm and lots of fun. (Our enthusiastic host, Akanathi, didn’t disappoint, either.) Apart from all the laughs and food, at just under R200 a person, it was incredible value. For that, we got to meet and get to know Hunny, our dedicated sushi chef, we had 9 pieces of sushi each, a glass of sparkling wine, an apron (what a good idea that turned out to be, what with all that sticky rice …) and – get this – a certificate, too! Just don’t get carried away thinking you can wave that piece of paper around in lieu of a CV. It certifies you participated. (Just as well, I’m thinking!) I HIGHLY recommend it (date night, girls’ night, whatever). You do need to book, though.

Had such an amazing meal and general experience last night! The last time we went to John Dory’s was about 2 years ago and we vowed to never go again due to the poor service and lack of care in the food. We decided last minute to stop in last night for a meal and wow what a fantastic improvement! The food was absolutely divine and so tasty and as for our waiter Richard, what an incredible person! He made us laugh and feel welcomed from the second we sat down and even shook our hands when we were leaving. After we gave such praise on the food Richard took it upon himself to fetch the chef that made our food so we could give him the praise he deserved, Mandilakhe - keep up the good work, you took such pride in our meal last night and what an awesome person you are! John Dorys Hemingways I truly hope you treat Richard & Mandilakhe very well and look after them, they are incredible souls!

Loved my first visit to John Dorys Hemingways! I will be taking my mom and dad for a spoil there soon!!!

Best place for sushi and the most devine platters, combined with friendly staff - what more do you want! John Dory's is TOPS!!
